Cissi’s Market on South Congress Closes

It seemed to be an idea made in marketing heaven. Take an upscale, high-end grocery and deli and drop it into the middle of a teeming, regentrified South Congress. Yet Cissi’s market, next door to first Mars and then Perlas and on the other side of Guero’s never seemed to gain much traction with its target audience.

It closed quietly last week, in stark contrast to the PR hoopla that surrounded its opening.

I personally had mixed emotions about the place. Thought the sandwiches by and large were quite good but the rest of the fare was not always consistent. Had some of the most dreadful tabouli there I’ve ever tasted.

So adieu to this cool little store. Here’s hoping the space can be put to better use by some budding entrepreneur.
