Romeo’s on Barton Springs Closes

Romeo’s, a long-time occupant at the corner of Barton Springs near South Lamar has closed its doors. The Italian restaurant with the popular piano bar had a long run at its location but the proverbial lockout letter from the landlord posted on the door signaled the unfortunate end of this cozy little joint. It’s not exactly as if Austin was awash in a sea of Italian restaurants either.

But with the exception of Chuy’s and Shady Grove, Baby Acapulco, and to some extent Austin Java and Uncle Billy’s, Barton Springs has been an unmitigated disaster for many of the restaurants that gave it a go there over the years. And certainly no thanks to the city of Austin that had the street literally torn up for almost three years in another one of its endless construction projects.
