Sap’s Adds New Special Dishes

My admiration for Sap and his Westgate Thai restaurant is well known. The man who brought Madam Mam to Austin is now on his own and doing gangbusters. There are some new menu items you need to know about and they are flat-out terrific. I’ve tasted them all. Here’s a quick overview.

S-A11 Mee Krob Boran

This is great appetizer and very common form of Thai street food. It’s a crispy rice noodle cooed in sweet tangy tamarind and palm sugar sauce with small fired tofu and fired diced shrimp. Sweet but delicious!

S-A12 Gai Yang Som Tum

This is one of my new favorites. It’s a papaya salad served with Thai BBQ chicken wings and drumsticks along with sticky rice.

S-P52 Kai Pa-Loh

I took this one home and it warmed up beautifully. This is a traditional Thai home dish made with chunks of pork and fired tofu with a boiled egg cooked in a light brown five-spice soup. There is a deep mellowness to this dish that just won’t quit.

S-P53 Cie Khrong Moo Ob

If you like ribs then this is your proverbial cup of tea. Pork spare ribs are grilled with Sap’s special sauce with yellow onions, tomatoes, black pepper and palm sugar served with rice and spicy chili and garlic sauce!
