The Iconic Lovejoy’s Serves Final Drink August 5th
My son-on-law John and his buddies loved this place between 6th and 7th on Neches. I asked John what his favorite “dive bar” was an he immediately mentioned Lovejoy’s. My friend Rob used to DJ there. It was a monument to the “keep Austin weird” vibe that used to characterize as lot of this city. And it was a place to have sheer, unencumbered fun right under the watchful eye of the velvet Elvis.
They celebrated life in a different manner at Lovejoy’s. This was a placed for those who marched to the beat of Thoreau’s celebrated different drummer.
And I would urge you to check out the final memorandum so fondly and nicely written by Jessi Cape of the Chronicle on August 6th of this year. Just Google the Chronicle food blogs and you’ll find it. And Austin loses another connection to our storied benign indifference to the passing parade.
What did Joni Mitchell say? “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”
