Blow Out and All, We Make It to JoBell

So last Saturday, we’re driving down Highway 12 from 290 toward Wimberly and the new JoBell restaurant when BLAM, the right rear tire blows out. We coasted on the soft shoulder looking for a level spot. Just as we were about to call AAA, a guy stopped and offered to help. He jacked up our Denali, and got the mangled tire off. My friend Art opened the rear door to get the spare, and whaddaya know? No spare. The guy from the repair shop had failed to put it back (when I’d been in for the same tire earlier in the week). Arrgghh.

So my son-in-law comes out from our house in his truck and picks us up. We put on the emergency blinkers and head up to JoBell for a lovely, albeit late dinner. Owner David Bober had even offered to come and get us. 🙂

Got home to see 3 messages from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office demanding that we tow the car. The rest of the story is rather comical and need not be told here. Suffice to say we made it to JoBell, and blow outs and related mishaps notwithstanding, the evening went as well as an evening like that can go.
