Bombay Bistro Disappoints on Repeat Outing
The Bombay Bistro has always been a family favorite from its days on Jollyville to its current location in Brodie Oaks off of South Lamar. After a disappointing take out experience several months ago we decided to give it another try.
Alas, there was no discernible improvement. The vegetable samosas, which had always been moist and tasty, did not travel well and were flat and tasteless.
The butter chicken was a large disappointment; the sauce was not the least bit buttery and was was much too ramped up on the spice front. Worse still, the lack of the advertised brown meat contributed to the annoying dryness of the dish.
The Saag Paneer was equally disappointing. Normally this dish is smooth and carries an amalgam of perfectly seasoned spinach. But the other night it was barely cooked and laden with thick clumps of spinach.
Then the Aloo Paratha, the always delicious unleavened dough filled with mashed potatoes and spices – perfect for dipping – was a complete disaster. It too was totally dry and devoid of any flavor. The bread broke into into unmanageable pieces as we tried to dip it into the butter chicken sauce.
So in total the dishes were disastrous.
I doubt we’ll going back again any time soon if at all.
