Cisco’s is Back Under New Ownership
Rudy Cisneros, my old pal, would be happy to see that his beloved Tex-Mex joint on E 6th is now in good hands. Grandson Matt Cisneros is now the new owner with a team of partners and they have big plans: for the first time in the history of this iconic spot they’re going to serve dinner!
I started going to Rudy’s place around 1983 when I was in my first and short-lived tenure as the food critic for KTTV, now KXAN-TV. It was a lively crowd with a lot of local celebrities and the famous circular “liars table.” Rudy, cigar firmly in place, presided over this wild and crazy joint and he was flat out a great guy, the real deal.
I don’t know Matt but if the gene pool is in place I would imagine he’s got a lot of his boisterous grandfather in him. I really hope so. Cisco’s is open now at for breakfast and lunch. As soon as dinner begins we’ll post it here. I’m very pleased to report this story. 🙂
