Collaboration Between Family Members of Smitty’s and Kreuz Market in Lockhart to Result in Schmidt Family BBQ at the Galleria in Bee Caves

I have to admit this one caught me by surprise. In the fiercely competitive and parochial world of central Texas BBQ, this is almost the equivalent of a home invasion. Family members of the iconic Smitty’s and Kruez Market in Lockhart are collaborating on a new BBQ joint at the upscale Galleria in Bee Cave. As most people know Kruez and Smitty’s are owned by a brother and sister respectively. Both stores, except for recently, have been almost been permanent residents of most Top 50 Texas BBQ lists.

Construction has begun on the Schmidt Family BBQ, and we’ll keep you posted. Can we expect white tablecloths à la the Salt Lick in Westlake? Doubt it!
