Domingo’s near Dripping Springs Closes
Out near Dripping Springs, Domingo’s, an owner-operated restaurant on Highway 290 in what had been the former Stadium Grill, has also closed. Domingo made some very decent Mexican food: in fact, I thought his Shrimp Fajitas and his Talapia al Mojo de Ajo were terrific. The place was not much on ambiance but had a pretty good start last year. However as the gigantic and mega slick Trudy’s on 290 opened a few months ago, his business began to soften. It’s too bad because the place had a lot of potential. But those are the exigencies of the restaurant game.. It is as tough an industry as there is, particular for small owner operators who don’t have the leverage to partner with banks and instead have to seek angel investors, limited partners, or max out credit cards and savings accounts. And ironically, a restaurant next to Domingo’s, The Canyon Grill (which may serve one of the best cheeseburgers south of the river along with some very tasty Chinese food) is hanging on by a slim thread as well. I truly hope that we don’t have to report their closing next.
