Eden East Continues To Blaze Trails

When I first walked into this totally Austintatious food emporium on Springdale, I was taken aback by the trailer-like ambiance. It reminded me of a much larger version of Bryce Gilmore’s early days at the Odd Duck.

But the food and the prices had nothing trailer-like about them. This was keeping Austin weird at its very best, and delicious. They’re only open weekends, and you MUST have a reservation.

The most recent weekend menu will give you some idea. A Double Pork Cheek Terrine, Grilled Pear and Texas Cheddar, Southern Vegetable Soup, Sirloin and Oxtail with baby carrots, malabar spinach and sweet potato puree, finished off with a Persimmon Brulee. And you can BYOB.

Chef Sonya Cote continues with her innovative dishes. The price is prix fixe at $70. If it seems like you’re dining on a farm, it’s because you are!

Steinbeck would have loved this Eden East.
