Fat Sal’s Opens on Guadalupe

Some Jersey/New York friends who eventually migrated to LA, one of whom (Jerry Ferrara) landed the role as Turtle in HBO’s Entourage, decided to go into the restaurant business. The result was Fat Sal’s, named after a famous Jersey sandwich food trailer. Three opened in the cradle of LA’s movie and tv culture, and the fourth has opened in Austin.

Co-founder Sal Capek has actually moved to Austin and small world, is a neighbor of mine in High Pointe north of Dripping Springs. I had a Korean BBQ salad that was delish and the sandwiches look ridiculously good and enormous. They actually have a $49.99 7-lb sandwich that if eaten in under 40 minutes is free. Amazingly, though open now for several weeks, they’ve yet to have anyone in Austin attempt the challenge.

I think this is going to be a good one. Obviously quality, well-trained staff, and a nice environment. Grand opening in a few weeks. We’ll keep you posted.
