Joe Avila Passes

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joe’s Bakery at the passing of Joe Avila this Sunday. He was a larger-than-life kind of guy with a huge heart. He loved his family and his restaurant on E. 7th St. He was kind in ways that didn’t capture a lot of attention: but when he was needed by family, friends, or in some cases almost complete strangers, he was always, always there. I can fondly remember how he once gently lectured a new restaurant critic on the critical nuances of menudo.

His daughter Rosie has Joe’s outgoing personality and big heart he will live on in her. And that’s always how it should be. Bien viaje Joe!
