Las Manitas hangs up sign on the door: CLOSED FOREVER!

After we returned from the Labor Day weekend, my inbox was full of surprised and somewhat confused emails from readers who had gone to Las Manitas for breakfast tacos on Monday only to see a sign on the door reading “Closed Forever!”

I suspect this is the Perez sisters displaying some ill feelings over being forced out a bit earlier than they expected as they prepare to move down the street to their new digs. Just my conjecture, of course.

But doubtless, there is truth to the sign. The old Las Manitas will indeed be closed forever. It can never be duplicated. Lot of memories in that place. Breakfast tacos with Robert Barnstone, Kirk Watson, Lee Cooke, and all my favorite politicos. Swapping insults with the Perez sisters (I have to give credit where due: they could dish it out but they could take it as well, all in a good-humored fashion).

So we shall see if the new establishment that initially was the epicenter of so much political wrangling can live up to the old.
