Mastman’s Opening Appears Questionable
We reported on this site months ago (with great anticipation) about the imminent opening of Mastman’s Kosher Deli on West 6th next to Ruth’s Chris.
However, as several stated opening dates have come and gone, we’ve been getting a lot of emails from disappointed foodies who couldn’t wait to get their first Pastrami Reuben or authentic Blintzes, particularly given the absence of Katz’s and Manny Hattan’s. The general tone of each letter is roughly the same: when is Mastman’s going to open?
The owner Dave Rosen told me on the radio back in July that they were available for catering, and that all else would follow around October. However, at this point I honestly have no idea when it’s going to open or even if it’s going to open. There is a FOR LEASE sign in the window of what was supposed to be their space (which has shown no construction progress since I was there in May). As a result, repeated assurances on their Facebook page about an opening in December are beginning to lack credibility.
I’ll be the first one in the door if Mastman’s does indeed open. It’s just doesn’t seem to be looking too good at this moment.
