Old School Grill Opens on Parmer
Nice to see that the classy Old School Grill has opened at 6301 W. Parmer Lane way out in an area that’s fairly restaurant deprived. The menu ranges from what I hear is a killer chicken fried steak to Philly Cheesesteaks and ceviche along with vegetarian options. It’s in the Parmer / McNeill Plaza. Call them at (512) 722-6353.
Got to try some of Old School’s food on Thursday. The BBQ Srimp were great as was the juicy cheeseburger, the Cajun pasta, and the enormous and nicely marbled ribeye. Their Buffalo Wings also had an upscale NY authenticity and tang. Very eclectic and thoughtful menu. My least favorite item was the Chicken Fried Steak but I’m not a big fan of that genre as a rule anyway. I read some of the reviews on user generated sites (which I almost never do) and was genuinely puzzled by the wild swings between love and hate for this place. The food is generally quite good and the price points were reasonable. Frankly, I don’t know what the hell some of these folks were talking about!
