Since the advent of the iPhone and other devices, we’ve been taking a lot more food pictures. Many are posted on our site while many more are on my Instagram page @robbalon.
Here are some of my recent favorites:
Harbinger of the full Lake Travis to come. This photo was taken in mid-January at the always photogenic Oasis.
Chinos and Gringos a few stores down from Via 313 at Hwy 290 and William Cannon. These are the Pork Bellies with Hawaiian rolls and they rock!
Daryl Wittle takes the reins at Bob’s Chop House. Daryl is a long-time veteran of Fleming’s and one of the best GM’s of a fine dining restaurant I’ve ever seen.
View from the rear window of Chinatown Westlake on Bee Caves Road. So glad that Ronald Cheng recreated his original restaurant from 1983!
Art like this adorns the walls of Rebel Pizza. I was there the night this and other walls were painted!
One of the best bone-in ribeyes anywhere in central Texas. III Forks on Cesar Chavez at Lavaca.
This lovely Chicken Oscar was photographed and then happily eaten at Creek Road Cafe in Dripping Springs.
The sky is literally the limit in the 2nd St District. Almost pulled a neck muscle taking this one.
One of the two beautiful ovens at Due Forni that gave the restaurant its name. Alas, they suddenly closed a few weeks ago.
The Korean Fried Rice at Jenna’s Asian Kitchen on 620. Very cool Pan Asian restaurant with a great chef (Jenna) in the kitchen.
Owner and chef Julio at the new Epicure on Hwy 290 in Dripping Springs. Love his imagination!
The jefes at Unit D pizzeria on Manor. Very cool spot that uses the beef from neighbor Dai Due in one of their pizzas.
Tough duty being a food critic. This was snapped with KEYE weathercaster Chikage Windler and her sister at the introduction of the first McDonald’s sandwich ever designed by a customer.
The Seafood Gumbo at Liberty Kitchen on W 5th St. As delicious as it looks.
The sumptuous Mezze Platter at Dai Due.
Judging the Taste of North Austin where 28 restaurants competed at The Domain.
Saw Billy Bob Thornton here one night: and would you be surprised?
