Smoke’n Hops BBQ on 290 Offers Up Some Creative Dishes
Most BBQ joints, when they deviate from the norm, usually do so by adding a whole lot more sides like, say, Pok-e-Jo’s. (And their sides are terrific.)
But the new place out on 290 just north of Dripping Springs called Smoke’n Hops has taken ‘cue creativity a step farther. First you have to try the Texas Egg Rolls. I’ve seen variations of this at Chili’s, but Smoke’n’s is much better. These are deep-fried egg rolls infused with brisket and cabbage, and damned if they aren’t very tasty. They’re surprisingly light and very good.
Another innovation is the Brisket Poppers. Again, quite good. The batter is the key and the poppers come out bursting with jalapenos, cheese brisket and just mounds of flavor. I always order these.
And also try the BBQ Sliders made with Pulled Pork. The rolls are sweet, and the pork is moist. Wash it down with a nice IPA.
