Sumo Gaining Traction in San Antonio

Posted by on Apr 15, 2014 in Openings

Brad Meltzer knows a thing or two about how to run a Tepanyaki restaurant. And since he was sadly forced to close his Benihana in Austin (on Burnet) due to some totally unnecessary legal wrangling with the parent company (currently being played out as we speak in Austin’s federal court), he did the next best thing and opened Sumo on 8342 IH-10W in San Antonio.

The closing of Benihana has left the Austin market severely underserved on the Japanese Hibachi and Tepanyaki fronts.

So since distance is at best, a relative concept to most Texans, take a short drive down to SA and available yourself of one of the coolest and tastiest dining experiences around. Trust me, Austin has nothing like Sumo. The décor, the preparation, the chefs, and the food itself totally elevate this place to a destination restaurant for Austinities.
