The Grove Opens In Lakeway at Former Mizu Location
Reed Clemmons is something of a magician in local restaurant circles. He has a record of going into areas that have not been conducive to successful restaurants and making something happen. Witness the success of the first Grove in Westlake (a notoriously bad spot for restaurants).
Now he’s launching a second Grove in Lakeway on RR 620 at the former site of Mizu. Opening night was June 24th.
The Grove has opened in a building that probably has the best inland view in the Austin area. And Clemmons gets how to make restaurants accessible to the discretionary spending crowd. The menu will be the same as the Westlake restaurant and there should be an active bar scene (which Mizu could never accomplish). Of course women of a certain age are more than welcome (we don’t want to use THE common slang often applied to the evening scene at Steiner Ranch) and for that matter, I think the Grove expects a varied demographic.
It’ll be interesting to watch the night-life combatants in and near Lakeway (Fore and Steiner Ranch) go head to head with the Grove. There’s far more competition here in Lakeway than what the Grove on Bee Caves faced (as in none).
And I don’t think the management is worried about the Grove II cannibalizing Grove I from a customer standpoint. It’s a brand new ball game in Lakeway. And it’s good news for an area that before a few years back, had zero night life.
