The Year-Old McDonald’s Cheeseburger

This is truly a bizarre story that should alarm all of us who care about food.

Seems that a California nutritionist bought a McDonald’s cheeseburger and then, as an experiment, let it sit out unwrapped and unrefrigerated for an entire YEAR! She wanted to see what would happen to it. And the really scary result was that… NOTHING happened. That’s right. The bun got a little stale but that was about it. There were no mold formations (as one would expect), no maggots, no bacteria, no nothing! The cheeseburger just kept on keeping on, so to speak.

Ms. Hesketh, the nutritionist was quoted as saying, “Obviously it makes me wonder why we eat food like this when even bacteria won’t eat it.” I wouldn’t have thought of doing this myself but it does give one pause about what goes into a McDonald’s Cheeseburger that would allow it to sit unrefrigerated for a year without deteriorating in any way. Ugghhh!
