Update on the Russian House Opening
We’ve talked quite a bit about the anticipated opening of Austin’s first Russian restaurant on East 5th next to Rival’s Steakhouse.
The projected opening dates have come and gone, but to anyone familiar with the restaurant business this is not unusual. The red tape involved in opening a restaurant in Austin can be substantial and with myriad permits, inspectors, et al. gumming up the works. I’ve seen delays as long as six months past the stated opening date.
I’ve heard from Varda, one of the owners, and she says they are closing in and it’s now down to a matter of days, not weeks. Hopefully, on this week’s Food Friday on 590 KLBJ from 9-10am, I’ll have a firm opening date.
