Vince Young’s Steakhouse to Open Saturday, Nov. 6th

Probably the most celebrated and popular UT football player since Earl Campbell, Vince Young, the current starting QB of the Tennessee Titans is opening a steak house bearing his name at 3rd and San Jacinto.

Can Austin absorb another downtown steak house? I didn’t think we could handle Perry’s a few years ago, but I was dead wrong on that one. The thing that will ultimately determine the success 0or failure of Vince’s restaurant will be food quality, price points, and establishing a regular customer base. Because Austin seems to have an inexhaustible love for all things steak-related, I’d say the place has a good shot.

But sports celebrities have not found the restaurant business to be a slam dunk. Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Mike Ditka, Kobe Bryant, and Pete Rose head a long list of those who have failed. One of the keys will be the ongoing presence of and access to Vince himself. I wish him the best!
