Westlake Footballers Take the Rudy’s Rib Challenge for Habitat for Humanity

One thing you can always count on is that Rudy’s BBQ is going to be at the center of things when it comes to charitable works and altruism.

I had a chance to cheer on some of the Westlake Chaps football team not long ago as they pigged out on Rudy’s St. Louis Ribs in benefit for Habitat for Humanity.

The idea was that restaurant customers (I was at the 360 Store in Westlake) would come in, pay $20, and try to match the footballers in rib consumption. The proceeds were all donated to charity.

The Westlake team was in competition with several other high schools around the city. And though the five boys (mostly linemen of course) gave it a valiant effort and downed 127 ribs in one half hour, they were beaten by the team from Anderson High who polished off 171 ribs. To be fair, most of the Westlake players had dropped quite a bit of weight from their season averages, and maybe there just wasn’t enough room to stash all that good QUE. Nonetheless, as the pictures below will attest, they gave it a a shot!

The real winner, of course, was Habitat for Humanity. Our hats off to Rudy’s for their ongoing support of local charities.
