When Tex Mex Meets Austin Style BBQ: Welcome to Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ
In my quest to finish my article in Forbes magazine on Austin BBQ, my path led me to Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ on Manchaca.
I had to schmooze my way through the line as I tracked down owner Miguel Vidal and his wife Melody. Seems that Miguel worked for Kevin Williamson at Ranch 616 off West 6th St where his idea to fuse the two disparate cuisines into one novel concept took place.
They brought me a brisket taco on a fresh flour tortilla (shown above) and the commingling of flavors (with a tad of guacamole) totally blew me away. The queso was totally delicious as well.
I’m calling Miguel tomorrow and I’m going back for another tasting!
